Educational Objectives
Jane Smith 2002-2003
As summer fills our schedule with seasonal, informative activities, the new school year opens up higher level opportunities for enjoyable, interesting, and educational experiences. I cannot hope to describe all the new avenues we will take, but this will briefly review our guidelines for each subject.
ENGLISH (to include spelling, reading, and writing)
Continue to reinforce and build skills in spelling, reading, and writing, and continue progress in oral and written communication, study skills, vocabulary, reference skills, comprehension, and independent/critical thinking skills.
ARITHMETIC
The math program will cover previous skills and introduce new concepts through incremental development and review. The correlation of math with other subjects will continue as well as the practical application of skills learned.
SCIENCE
Scientific thinking skills will continue to be developed and sharpened. As studies through the program progress, they will be correlated with other subjects.
HISTORY, GEOGRAPHY, and CIVICS
Continue progress in understanding the clear, sequential flow of history through continued study of past civilizations of the world and will compare the diversity of the communities of both the past and present. The understanding of civics will continue to be developed through the study of history and applied in daily life. Geography studies will be integrated with history studies.
HEALTH and PHYSIOLOGY
Our focus continues to be overall fitness for good health. Studies will continue to expand the knowledge and understanding of systems of the body and how they work together.
PHYSICAL and SAFETY EDUCATION
Motor skill and strength development is continually maintained and improved through both indoor and outdoor activities. Regular and continuous instruction in the dangers and prevention of fires will be included as well as general safety and the dangers of drug and alcohol use.
MUSIC and ART
Studies will be enriched by experiencing different styles of music and art. Hands-on projects will be correlated with other subjects. Personal creativity and expression is encouraged.
